I just so happen to be reviewing a little of Dante's Inferno this evening when it struke me, à la the Virginia Tech shooting et. al., that Dante really was the first person to pen a whole lot of dark shit fantasizing a killing spree after he was spurned by some tart. He didn't have semiautomatic weapons, but with the imagery of God loaded in his pen, his imagined killing spree went way beyond anything one of these jilted teenagers could conceive. And he really struck a pose in that his trenchcoat was red instead of black — but red is well within the range of acceptable colors for a goth kid.
